If something doesn’t creep into a drawing that you’re not prepared for, you might as well not have drawn it.

Thing #18: Ball Chain Bracelet

I am going through a short phase of bracelet-addiction thanks, mainly, to the aforementioned (previous post) blog, HonestlyWTF.  This time, I was inspired by their ball chain bracelet tutorial and a mistaken yard sale purchase. I thought I was buying a beaded necklace that I intended to dismantle, but I was actually buying a ball chain-type of necklace.  When I went to de-bead the necklace, I learned of my folly. The fabulous femmes at HonestlyWTF convinced me that all was not lost.

Thing #18 is a bracelet made from a ball chain necklace, memory wire, ribbon, a glass bead and a couple of well placed stitches.

Thing #17: Hex Nut Bracelet

One of my favorite blogs (which happens to have one of the best blog names I’ve seen), HonestlyWTF, recently posted a tutorial for making a hex nut bracelet. You should really check it out.  While there, subscribe to the blog’s feed and check out other posts and tutorials. Recent posts on artists who carve pencils and crayons into intricate sculpture will blow you away — and might even make you say, “Honestly, WTF??”

Thing #17 is my own take on the hex nut bracelet and a huge nod the amazing women at HonestlyWTF.

My hex nut bracelet uses woven linen yarn (thank you Kathleen!!), 3 different sizes of hex nuts, braiding, a little macrame (half knots), sterling silver toggles and various beads (mostly sterling silver).

A Larger Thing

Thing 16 is a collection of Things and will be part of a larger collaboration with a friend.  It will take some time to finish, so I will post some progress updates.  I also may skip ahead and work on some other Things before we’re finished with the Big Thing.

Here’s a peak at some of my work…

A Productive Weekend, However Thingless

It’s been a slow couple of days for Things, but I’ve gotten a lot of other projects done.

Charging Station
I drew up the plans for this several weeks ago and finally finished it.  It has a pocket for my Kindle, phone and miscellaneous items.

Quick Shirts
I’ve seen a couple of blogs posts recently with really simple shirt patterns. The attractive thing about them for me is that they are light and loose — perfect for hot summer days. They don’t look very good on my ugly dress form.  They don’t look that great on me, come to think of it.  But they are super comfortable and I love them.

Both patterns come from One Avian Daemon.

The color of the first one, while probably technically good for me, is pretty close to being my least favorite color in the world for clothing, but it was the only color available and the fabric was too lovely to pass up.

Here’s the second pattern and shirt.

Shirt Dress
A year or so ago, I bought this enormous hemp golf shirt for Neil.  It’s way too big for him, but every time I pick it up to put it in the “donate pile,” I fall in love with the feel of it.  The hemp fabric is thick and soft and just amazing.  So, I turned it into a dress for myself.  It’s not quite ready.  The arm holes aren’t quite even.  But it’s close.  I should have ironed it or washed and dried it to get the wrinkles out.  Oops.

Sparklies
Finally, I have one more sparkly to add to the collection.

Thing 15: Glass Nuggets

I will probably do something other than just cover these little things, but here’s some eye candy:

Things: 12, 13, and 14

Things 12 and 13 are drawings I made for my cousin’s (1st cousin once removed, really) wedding invitations.  Thing #12 is the winner. Both drawings are ink and pastel.

Thing #14 is actually a group of items.  I just didn’t feel like they each deserved their own number.  They are angry fruit characters I created for my latest blog, Fruit Intolerance.

Thing #9: Glass, Wooden Buttons, Beads, Wire

Between the completion of Things 7 and 9, I also started a few more “Things” and created two drawings for my cousin’s (okay my first-cousin-once-removed’s) wedding invitations.  So, I’m not sure that this is technically Thing #9.  However, I’m calling it Thing 9, anyway.  I think the name suits it.  Perhaps tomorrow I’ll post the drawings as 10 & 11.  Perhaps…

Bonus Feature!

Yesterday, I fell in blog-love.  Karen Bertelsen’s blog: The Art of Doing Stuff is a must see.  She’s smart, creative and funny — and she’s Canadian!  🙂

I Break for Sparklies

I found this cute skirt at Bearly Worn (the store at 4926 has had to close, so everything is at 4908 now)…

…and I needed a necklace to go with it (it matches better than it appears…).  So, I took a one-day break from the 100 Things to make this:
